[+] 10.0 Cheaper than Local Stores
Not only did I get this in 3 days after ordering, I had value-shopped at my local Staples and Office Depot. Both had the same product priced $15 higher for each. So, yes, I am very pleased with my purchase...and shipping.

[+] 4.0 Not real TDK--avoid
As several other people here have said, this is not true TDK media but CMC Magnetics which is being sold under TDK's label. CMC is considered mediocre-quality consumer-grade media, so avoid it if you need anything truly reliable for medium to long term storage. The same is true of Ritek and Memorex--recently I checked a number of disks that I backed up 3-5 years ago and many were now unreadable. The Verbatims, however, were fine.

I would just buy Verbatim--or even better--Taiyo Yuden since you can get T-Y at about 36 cents per 100 pack. Unfortunately, even Verbatim's quality has suffered in recent years since they have licensed their technology to a number of offshore manufacturers who are making the disks under Verbatim's brand name and they are not the same quality as the true Japanese made Verbatims.

If you can find real Japanese made Verbatims those should still be good, but otherwise, beware. In the online discussions and blogs Taiyo Yuden came up all the time for top quality and reliability and I would just get those. I've recently bought their DVD-R 16x's and all have burned flawlessly. No coasters, although we will see if they last the 20-30 years or more that T-Y should last if stored properly. Of course, who knows if I'll be around that long :-). But I needed some good, archival grade media for family photos, important docs, and so on, and T-Y was the clear winner for a top quality, reasonably price media.

If you want the bitter end in price and quality, though, check out the "Century disk" which is a partnership between Mitsubishi and Kodak. It is dual-layer gold/silver media with a metal stabilized azo dye, similar to Verbatim's and said to be even better than Taiyo Yuden's super-cyanine dye. Another huge factor in their favor is that these media are pressed in runs of only 25,000, rather than half a million disks which is typical, when the glass master is replaced. After a few hundred thousand pressings, the glass master isn't that precise anymore, which is why people often get these coasters from an otherwise good 50 or 100 pack, because the manufacturers mix together disks from different parts of the run. If you get disks from the last 100,000 they may not be that good. These disks also have an extra hard, scratch resistant polycarbonate layer (or whatever it is, I'm not a chemist), similar to the Blu-Ray disks, which also helps protect the disks. These DVDs are pricey though--over 2 bucks per disk--so they're not cheap. They are also only made in DVD-R's, and some people prefer the +Rs because of their superior bit error checking and correction, better wobble detection and correction, and multiple laser burn profiles which makes for better control of the burn. But if you need the absolute best in a -R disk for critical files they might be worth trying. I bought some of these for some family photos and critical files.

If you need to burn dozens or hundreds of disks, it can get expensive. But these are probably the top quality disk on the market right now. Whichever way you decide to go, good luck with your optical media and archival storage!

[+] 6.0 dvd-r
When I got my shipment in and opened the box, the packaging of the dvd's were not packed the right way. Since I had ordered 2 100 pack cases, I would have thought it would have came in better condition. As soon as I opened the box, the cases were open and discs exposed as if the box may have been thrown around which would have given me the idea that the sender never really gave any thought that this box will be traveling such a distance. I have bought items such as this in the past and not gotten in such array. I will not purchase from this vendor again.

[+] 2.0 Entire spindle is NO Good - Unuseable
Bought these on 7-18-09. I didn't need them until 11-20-09. They have been stored indoors in a cabinet below my tv.I had trouble burning a few and thought it was my burner. NOT SO !! So far, 10 of 10 have been no good. Tried a new burner and same thing. I bought a spindle of HP dvd's and so far, 10 for 10 have burned successfully. I have used TDK's for years because they were so reliable. This spindle is 100% rotten - no good - trash, can't even use them as frisbees.

I want my money back................ PLEASE!!

[+] 2.0 "knock off"
I dont even think they are made by TDK, They will not register on any dvd burning program at more that 4x speed only. And on most programs not being able to change the speed to 16x it screws up the writing. The disc states 1 to 16x writing speed and I have tried 15 different programs and I cant get these disks to write faster than 4. I finally found a program "image burn that will write at 4x and not screw up the writing. Using Nero it will leave gaps at the end of the writing, and it is irretating to watch 2 to 4 minutes of skipping. The price might be cheap but you get what you pay for, like I said I think they are knock offs, on image burn it shows the manufacturer of the disc on details when recording and on this disc it comes up bsdk24 ot some like that, not tdk. When I put a sony disk in it says sony.

[+] 2.0 AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! TDK DOESN'T HONOR WARRANTY!
I swore by TDK disks for the last 3 years. They were rock solid. However, the last set of 100 I bought were terrible: I tried 10 from throughout the package and they were all bad. What happened was that TDK disks were made by CMC Magnetics or Daxon. Now they are made by Ritek and they are junk. Worse yet, when I contacted TDK and asked them to replace them they told me a great story, but I never got the replacement disks. The problem disks were tested on a Plextor PX-755SA (a premium drive) and a Plextor PX-850SA (actually manufactered by Lite-On).

[+] 10.0 best from my list of dvd r's
I have tried lots of DVD R's and i have to say that the TDK has surpassed all the rest. There are certain situations that occur with other brands that does not happen with this brand. (sorry about the lack of detail.) But ultimatly TDK is the best in my mind, of course I will only pay 19.99 for 100, so I purchased them elsewhere this time.!!!

[+] 10.0 DVD-R
From what I've read in the technical literature, there are two brands of CD/DVD media which are consistently superior; they are TDK and Verbatim. I have no particular loyalty to either and usually buy the one found first. I have had nothing but good results from either brand. I should point out that I have not used the re-writable forms of these dics but I am assuming that the quality is comparably good.

[+] 2.0 Poor quality, poor customer support, poor buy
Bought a cake box of these and as some have listed this is CMC MAG AM3 media a low quality manufacturer. The edges of the ink on the disk are irregular and highly pitted. These disks are usable, but only if you burn a smaller size than full. If you use at 4gb than they may work. I had a failure rate of better than 65%. This is with a clean windows install, updated dvd firmware and fully patched burning software. I have a high level of tech knowledge (so don't blame my coasters on that.) When I contacted TDK for help they wanted me to use the full package and then send back only the bad ones. When I mentioned the pitted edges they started asking me to email pics. Why should I do their quality control. I'm just going to throw them out and never buy TDK again, I suggest you do the same.

If your a previous user of TDK understand that they sold off their media rights to Imation, this is not the same quality media your used to using.

[+] 10.0 Great DVD;s but Amazon has trouble shipping w/o damage
I don't think I have ever made a coaster with a TDK DVD-R so I use them almost exclusively.

However, I don't think I'll order them from Amazon again. Twice the box containing only the dvd's has arrived in pristine condition but inside, amazingly, the dvd package itself arrived open with the spindle broken right off the bottom of the package. Also, either some of the air pillow packing had been placed between the last dvd and the bottom of the pack at the Amazon warehouse or somehow an air pillow worked itself into that spot during shipping.

The first time this happened, the replacement was shipped the next day and arrived a day earlier than expected. The second time, the rep told me to wait 10 days to reorder but wouldn't give me the price I paid for it, only a $10 coupon toward my next purchase. Not that I would order again but of course the dvd's are more expensive now than when I first ordered.

[+] 10.0 Work Great
I bought a spindle of 50 discs for the purpose of transferring my videotapes onto DVDs. Every one of the 50 has worked fine, both in recording and on playback, not only on my several DVD players but also on other peoples who I have burned discs for. Worked so well I just bought another order of 100. Excellent product.

[+] 2.0 Unusable on NEC DVD Burner
There is a vast array of DVD burners and writable DVD media, in terms of companies. These TDK DVD-R disks seem to be entirely incompatible with a NEC ND-3550A DVD burner. Rather than throw them away, which I should do, I think I may just keep them on the side until lite-on makes a blueray burner (with DVD burning capabilities) in a reasonable price range. I've been looking for a blueray burner, hopefully it will be able to handle these disks.

I got these when they were priced super low awhile back, but I might as well have coughed up more cash. The error rate on these discs is very high. I'm getting a bad disc at least 1 of every 3. A 33% error rate is ridiculous.

[+] 10.0 Great DVD-R's, Great Brand
I have finished more than three-quarter of the 100-pack spindle and I have yet to find a coaster. The thing with DVD's or CD's is that when you find a bad one, it seems to be bunched into the same stack as they were manufactured at the same place and at the same time. My recommendation is not to burn DVDs or CDs using the maximum speed, the chance of a bad burn tend to be much much less if you knock it down a bit. Same as filling up the data capacity, 4200mb seems to work best for me as filling up the DVD to the edge may become problematic.

[+] 10.0 Works GREAT with TiVo Humax DVR
I have an older Humax TiVo DVR which has the DVD burner inside. Though the Humax leaves a LOT to be desired. .. the TDK DVD's are the only ones that I can use in it and they work 99% of the time. I've tried lots of other brands, and have lots of problems, but TDK almost always works. When you're buying a spindle of 100, it's not impossible that you might have one or two that will give you a problem, but I find that with just about any brand, even on other DVD burners I have. I read somewhere that TDK was about the most compatible brand of blank DVD's that you can get. . . and that's certainly the case for me.

Maybe it's the discs, maybe it's my DVD recorder, but about one out of ten of the TDK DVD-R discs ended up with a message "disc error" or "unknown disc" It's not so much the loss of a disc as the two hours it takes to record a movie, just to end up having to record it all over again.

I've purchased 3 of these 100 packs from Amazon (ordering another now) and I've only had 2 "bad burn" coasters out of 300 disk burns using 4 different DVD burners, 2 in computers and 2 being used to burn/record TV shows. I highly recommend these disks.

[+] 2.0 Bad experience
I purchased a pack of these TDK 4.7 gb discs when they were on sell, thinking that I was getting a GREAT product for a very discounted price. After spending a lot of time transferring videos to DVD, I kept finding that almost all of the discs would have an error at the very end of the burn process (meaning I would have to re-record hour long videos many times to get an actual DVD).
At first I thought the problem might be with my DVD burner (I have a Dell Inspiron 6400), but after using other branded recordable DVD's, I've come to discover that the problem lies with the DVD...
I'd love a refund, but more so than that, I'd love to have back the wasted hours trying to transfer VHS to DVD with these discs...

It's hard for me to give this brand even with one star. I bought 100pcs but 50% of them were bad, couldn't burn, kept spinning and spinning until you turn off the computer. I will not buy TDK brand any more and you should not buy too.

[+] 10.0 Great price, 100% burnability!
I've already burned through over half of the 100 DVDs in this spindle and every last one of them is exactly what I want. Great quality picture, sound, etc. I use these to burn DVDs that are compatible with my PS2. I've burned movie, fansub anime, slideshows, and all of them are running great. For any who are curious, I use VSO's Divx to DVD to transfer avi's to vob/dvd. I don't bother with menus but DVDAuthorGUI is the program to use for that. Pick up VSO's Copy to DVD for an even easier burn. Of course, eveyone has a different poison but this is it for me. Overall, I've tried Verbatim and TDK DVDs and recommend both of them to DVD enthusiasts.

[+] 2.0 TDK DVD -R Blanks have a very high failure rate
I have used a whole range of DVD -R blanks, from brandless ones to the very high end. One of the worst is TDK. The failure rate is almost 50% and this is for my computer dvd burner and my DVD recorder. I use Nero Burning suite as well as Roxio and the results for TDK blanks are consistently bad. I have had very little failure with Maxell and Fuji. I am truely amazed that this product is being given 5 star ratings by some reviewers.

These are not the quality I was expecting. I've had several "coasters" and have had to slow my burning down to 8x. Even at 8x I've had a few coasters in my two Sony DVD burners. I've used over a thousand TY brand and had maybe 10 coaster in that many discs. I'll stick with T Y brand.

[+] 8.0 works great for me--but make sure they'll work for YOU first...
TDK makes a very reliable blank DVD-R that can handle up to 4.7 GB of data. Moreover, these blank DVD-Rs are capable of recording data at speeds up to "16x." The video I record onto these lasts forever. I have used these as discs to record video both with and without audio.

The DVD-R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your record video onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your DVD-Rs that have information stored on them. Don't store these discs, used or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose your recorded video over time.

There are three caveats that many other people note about any brand of this product: before you buy these make sure that your DVD burner drive can burn the TDK brand of DVD-R without any problems; otherwise you run the risk of getting way too many coasters at best in exchange for your money. Second, there's the "recording speed" issue. When you are burning the video onto the blank disc using computer software, don't be surprised if you see that the data is burning at a rate slower than "16x." This can happen if your burner doesn't have the capacity to burn faster, or it may be a quirk. I am not a professional so I cannot be certain of precisely what causes this phenomenon; but I assure you that the extra minute or two (tops) that you wait to get your DVD-R completed is worth the wait.

In addition, DON'T write on these using Sharpie ink pens. The ink can seep through the top coating of the DVD-R disc and slowly but surely compromise your data--ouch! If you need to label the discs, label its jewel case using a post-it note.

Overall, TDK blank DVD-R discs store video reliably over the years and I believe that if you make sure your burner can handle these they will be very useful to you. An extra minute to burn the data onto the blank disc is well worth it in the event that it doesn't actually burn at "16x" speed.
