Product Specifications

University physicists Leonard and Sheldon know whether to use an integral or a differential to solve the area under a curve. But they don’t have a clue about girls. Or dating. Or clothes. Or parties. Or having fun. Or, basically, life. So when a pretty blonde named Penny moves in the apartment across the hall, the guys decide to get an education outside of the classroom. Boys, you have a lot to learn. With series creators Chuck Lorre (Two and a Half Men) and Bill Prady (The Gilmore Girls) concocting the right mix of logic and lunacy and stars Johnny Galecki (Roseanne) and Jim Parsons (Judging Amy) turning geekdom into Phi Beta fun, The Big Bang Theory is big on laughs. And life.

[+] 10.0 Big Bang Theory delivers big laughs
In this world of drama, I was seeking comic relief...You fall in love with
these characters amd find yourself rooting for their successes. Social skills are so over-rated and relationships are so complex...these guys live in the truth about everything....they are eluded by the complexities of relationship lies and proticols.....refreshing comic performances....excellent X-mas gift for anyone of intelligence...

[+] 10.0 Fantastic!
I'm not going to repeat the premise of the show (which is very helpful, but already pointed out by others) These actors are truly gifted in making their characters come to life. I have watched and re-watched every episode. While my husband was stationed in Iraq, I had to promise I would record every episode for him, which I did. Afterward I happened to notice the first season for sale. There was no hesitation - I bought it immediately (eventhough I had them all recorded) so I could watch it as often as I wanted, with no fear of data loss. This show is very unique and an absolute pleasure to watch. The intertwined relationships of these characters has so much potential. I truly hope this show will last many years. I find myself actually smiling while watching each episode unfold. Big Bang Theory is exceptional entertainment.

[+] 10.0 Beter on DVD
I love the Big Bang Theory, but seldom get a chance to watch it or tape the show. This was the first time I purchased a complete season of a television show...it was great, no commercials and I was able to get a handle on the characters as they developed. Looking forward to season 2.

[+] 8.0 Would Be a 5 Star rating, but extras too thin
If you enjoy the Big Bang theory, you'll love having the entire first season. The only disappointment was that the "extras" left A LOT to be desired.. .no blooper reel? Really? Looked forward to a little more from the extras, but the show is fantastic.

[+] 8.0 Unique, Amusing Show
This DVD set is pretty much a "what you saw on TV is what you get, sans commercials" affair. That isn't a bad thing at all, but don't expect much in the way of extras. There are subtitles - in your choice of seven languages - and a largely forgettable 17 minute long behind-the-scenes feature, but that's it. Actually, you also get a brief free clip from Casablanca. Unfortunately, it has been transmuted by crude edits into an anti-piracy message. I suppose a "Thank you for your purchase!" rather than an implicit indictment for assumed piracy would be expecting a bit much from Warner Brothers.

The show itself is unique and funny. The potentially formulaic "socially inept geeks juxtaposed with attractive girl" plot is enlivened by a dialogue rife with smart and subtle science and math jokes that an actual science geek will appreciate and by a characterization of nerds that, while naturally a little over the top in terms of awkwardness and absurdity, often holds some truth. If you know some nerds, or are one, you may well find yourself watching scenes that are not only funny, but sometimes oddly familiar. While the humor often stems from the ridiculousness of the genius characters, it doesn't really come at their expense. In this show the nerds are, at heart, the good guys and aren't even completely lacking in self-awareness.

As with many sitcoms, the laugh track can get annoying at times, but it ultimately doesn't detract too much from the show. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing DVDs experiment by offering optional audio tracks with the canned laughs omitted. No luck with that here, though.

In an effort to play up the sexual frustrations of the guys, the show occasionally descends into the crass, but generally maintains a smart and positive tone. I found some episodes to be better than others but, overall, the show has proved to be very amusing entertainment. If you have some nerds in your life, there is a good chance you will agree.

[+] 10.0 It all started with the Big Bang.
Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper are very smart scientist living together in an apartment in New York City. They are not very popular and their only friends are fellow scientist Rajnesh (Raj) Koothrappali and Howard Wolowitz who often come over to play games.

Then Penny moves in across the way and Leonard has a massive crush on her. The show details how their lives collide each learning from the other, often with very funny consequences.

[+] 10.0 A little close to home, at times.....
My husband, a doctor, recently watched one of the discs with me and was enjoying it completely until.... until he realized that twice in one show HIS words were coming out of Sheldon's mouth! At that point, he said, "A little too close to home for my taste" and walked out - to go play a video game :) Nuff said!

[+] 10.0 HILARIOUS!!!
Just what I needed another show to DVR! This show is one of the best new shows that came out this past year & I can't wait to see this year. Just knowing Chuck Lorre came out with another show besides 2 1/2 Men, I knew if was going to be good. I am proud to say I live in a house of science nerds so we have some personal favorite spots. I don't know one person who has watched this show & didn't think it was hysterical! Copernicus himself couldn't have done a better job! If you haven't watched this, it's a definite one to put on your schedule!

[+] 2.0 A Terrible Show
I was baffled by how many people like this show. It is TERRIBLE. The comedy is so obvious, and all the actors are horrible. Please for the love of God tell me why this show is funny. How I Met Your Mother is pretty good, as is Rules of Engagement, but this show is almost unwatchable.

Is there something I'm not getting? Has Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men warped your brains to find unfunny situations funny? I'll watch Two and a Half Men, which in my opinion, is about on par with this show, and I will stare, baffled at how obvious the jokes are. It's as if the laugh tracks have created some Pavlovian response mechanism for the mentally challenged, forcing you to laugh every two seconds at banal dialogue.

Please, I am asking you to perform a service and tell me why this show is funny. Tell me why you laugh at this show. I just don't get it, and I feel like the minority considering 28 other people gave this 4 or 5 stars. It boggles the mind. Please, help me out...

[+] 10.0 Another HIT from Chuck Lorre
The Big Bang Theory is a funny, well-written, expertly acted sitcom. Chuck Lorre has created another hit show that goes beyond standard formula comedy. As in Two and A Half Men, his characters and their stories give the fans a lot to love. The entire cast definitely deserve an ensemble Emmy Award! Thank you Mr. Lorre and please know we DO read your vanity cards!!

[+] 10.0 best show on TV.. bright spot of the week for me

I watched the little Q&A session on this page, and it hit me that Chuck Lorre said they really like their characters. I think that's one of the primary reasons that I find it to be so good.

I love any story: movie, book, TV series; where the characters really come alive. I like Numb3rs for just that reason as well.

There are no (or few) dead stereotypical characters here. They truly are unique. And what better fantasy to work out: The "geek" gets the really hot girl, because he's a person with heart, and she recognizes it, and may eventually give in to it. As a 56-year old "partial-geek", this is the fantasy that all non-buff, non-jock, non-rich guys love; to root for the underdog, especially when we're just like the underdog.

I love this series and am thankful that they've brought it to us.

[+] 8.0 Great show, disappointing DVD
I LOVE this show! It's the most hilarious thing I've seen on TV in ages. I've been waiting for it to come out on DVD for months, so I could get my boyfriend caught up before the new season begins.

I did run right out and get it yesterday...but I was disappointed. There is a surprising lack of bonus features on these disks! In the world of today's shows, it's not uncommon to find an entire disk of extra features, so I was expecting good things - outtakes and commentaries that I'm sure would have been hilarious. However, not a single commentary appears, and while there is a behind the scenes feature, I can't help but feel that they could have done SO much more.

That being said, the show in itself is still amazing! All of the actors, especially Jim Parsons, are absolutely perfect in their roles. I highly recommend this series, but am giving the product only four stars because of the lack of bonus features.

[+] 10.0 GREAT show about GEEK life.
Ok, I only caught this show half way threw it's first season and have now seen all of season 1. I love, love, love, this show. As a 40 year old gay GEEK male. I have always had a twisted sense of humor. This show hit's my kind of humor perfect. I am part of these guys are, in the way they act and the things the find funy. I love to see there interaction between "NORMAL" people, which makes for a very funny show.

I want me a replica HG Wells Time Machine. LOL!!!

[+] 10.0 Superb
Thank you Mr. Lorre and thank you CBS for picking this show up for a second season! Well written, funny, and for once, a show that has grasp of what it talks about when it introduces a science topic. Only complaint is a tad too much laugh track.

[+] 10.0 Smart and Funny Comedy
I wasn't sure if I would like this show when I first saw the preview ads last summer. But after watching the first episode, I found myself watching every episode, and when I knew that I wouldn't be home, I would TiVo it. The ensemble cast is phenomenal, and the chemistry between the actors really makes this show work. I have been waiting to hear that it was renewed for the next television season. It is definitely a must-own for my DVD collection.

[+] 10.0 Smart funny television
Finally a TV show that doesnt insult your intelligence or feels the need to preach or dumb itself down for the masses. The characters are unique, well developed and always entertain, the writing is imaginative and funny. My wife and I both love this show and hope its around for a long time to come!

[+] 10.0 I love everything about this show.
I love this show! I hardly ever watch network sitcoms anymore but this show has won me over. I downloaded all the season one episodes from iTunes so I can watch them on my iPod.

Jim Parsons's character "Sheldon" is quickly climbing the ladder to be among my favorite TV sitcom characters of all time. He has a way to go to pass Frank Bonner's "Herb Tarlek, Jr" from "WKRP in Cincinnati", but he's getting close.

The 2008 Emmy nominations have been announced and Parsons' name is nowhere to be seen, and that is just a CRIME! What gives?! Mediocre shows like "Two and a Half Men" get accolades and recognition but this show doesn't?! We live in an unfair world, folks.

Buy this DVD set. Hopefully the show's writers can milk the concept for a few more seasons and still keep it fresh and funny.

[+] 10.0 The best comedy currently airing
I just love this show....its very clever and always funny. It's the only comedy currently on network TV that I watch and sometimes I rewatch it on CBS.com. Very few comedies made today can be called clever but this is.

[+] 10.0 Surprising
I admit I really didn't want to watch or like this show. I am usually more of a historical movie fan. But after the husband made me watch it I became hooked. This show totally relates to our lives and is so realistic and funny that it is a pleasure to watch, especially since Penny and Lenard are the total embodiment of my husband and myself. I hope they continue to make more of this show. We look forward to the release date.

[+] 4.0 not a funny show at all
I find this show to be terribly boring.
It is, of course, full of cliches, but most of all, it is
just dull.

[+] 10.0 Love this show!
I need for this DVD set to come out sooner that September. I have every epsiode saved on my DVR and I live in fear that I will accidentally delete one. This show is intelligent and it makes me laugh. My favorite episodes were pre-writers strike but I have enjoyed the entire season as a whole. The Grasshopper Experiment episode is by far my favorite. It brings about the best lines for all of the characters. The actor who plays Sheldon deserves an Emmy nod for his performance.
