[+] 6.0 Like the sound these guys make.
Bought this for the track " Washed in the Water", but like some others on the CD also. A bit different then their first CD in style.

[+] 10.0 Terrific!
I hadn't expected to like this CD as much as I do. It's rare that you find one where you like just about every song on the albumn. The lead singers voice has a unique quality almost gravely but no so much you can't understand most of the lyrics. I recommend this to every lover of Christian music. Upbeat and good enough to even dance to, this gets the juices flowing and is a great combo of praising God and gettin' down to boogie! You'll love it!

[+] 8.0 A great breakout album
If you could combine indie, jazz, blues with a hint of bluegrass you would have needtobreathe. This was the first album that I have bought of theirs and overall I am very impressed with the product. For originality I would would give them an A+. Their music is not recycled or generic in any way. They have some fresh ideas and find clever musical rifts as well as lyrics. The back stretch of the album had some of the best musical structures on the album. "Looks like love" has a very unique guitar rift that sets it apart. Also "Nothing left to lose" has a pounding message and is accented by it's strong musical component.
The lyrics were well written although vague and ambigious at times. Perhaps the real star of this band is Bear Rhinehart who is the lead singer. His vocals are not generic. He has the most unique voice that is both raw and sincere.
The reason I gave it a 4 star rating was because the middle of the album had some great songs but it seemed to me that it was lagging some in comparison with the front and back stretch. I liked all the songs well but I am not sure about the continuity of the album. However, I look forward to their next album because I think the best is yet to come for this group.

[+] 8.0 Great Album
I initially heard "We Could Run Away" on Music Choice's alternative rock channel on Comcast Cable. I loved the song and decided to by the cd. I was listening to it for a two weeks before realizing it was contemporary Christian. This is not a genre that I have listened to much, in the past. Wow, I may have been missing out on some great music.
Tracks 1-9 are fantastic, 10-13 are ok and I do like 14, too. You rarely can expect to get 10 great songs out of an album, today. This is coming from someone who includes Radiohead, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Chevelle, Keane, The Racanteurs, Ray LaMontagne, A Perfect Circle and Tool as some of his favorites.
I highly recommend this album and look forward to thier next one!

[+] 10.0 A must if you like truly good encouraging music
I will say this album rocks. If you like good music that is not too hard and not too soft then check it out. I double dog dare you as this will bless your socks off...Washed by teh Water is one of the hits off this album that is a smash hit along with a bunch of others. They have a great live performance that you should see. See it because it is a different concert. Especially when they do an accustic show after as an encore. It will blow your mind to watch these guys do what they do best: Play great music and worship the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

[+] 10.0 Buy This CD!
Absolutely my new favorite. The music, the lyrics, their style ... I had only heard one song from this CD prior to making the purchase and it has been in my player since I received it. All tracks are very good. I highly recommend it regardless of your favorite type of music!

[+] 10.0 One of my favorite CD's
What a talented group! I love this CD from beginning to end. This is one of those rare CD's wherein there is not a bad song. I recommend it to family and friends and often I just simply buy it for them. :-) No need to suggest...just give.

[+] 8.0 Not as Good as Daylight
Very solid album but certainly not as good their first which is OK considering that Daylight was certainly the best christian rock album of the decade so far and perhaps the best rock album period. The songs are stylistically more pop than rock on this one and more homogenous; their isn't quite the sonic variety on The Heat. Instrumentally, the rhythm section seems to be less active, but the keyboard work, while more prominant than I might have wanted, is really interesting. The first two tracks probably represnt the most variety and are the highlight of the album. Everything after that sounds pretty good, but after a few songs, you have to look down at the display to see how many different songs you've actually heard.

I heard someone give an interview recently talk about the sophomore slump by saying that it makes sense that 2nd albums aren't as good as debuts because bands spent their whole lives putting together their first album for a label and are then pressured by that label to put the second one out in eighteen months or less in the midst of near-constant touring to promote the first one. I think that accounts for the lack of variety, and maybe there's one other reason; more of these songs seem to be an effort to create a single rather than just a great song. Still, an album well worth a listening to.

[+] 10.0 Needtobreathe: The Heat
I appreciate this CD by Needtobreathe. I really like "Washed by the Water" as it is one of my favorites. Fairly good theology and speaks volumes of truth in their songs. Thank you!

[+] 10.0 "The Heat" NeedtoBreathe
This new project from NeedtoBreathe expands on the bands amazing talents. Incorporating more variety in sound; the melodies are as smooth as silk, this cd is breath taking. With meaningful lyrics and a stronger sound this group is maturing and bringing nothing but humility into their work. I would recommend this cd to anyone, it entails a little of everything.

[+] 10.0 Inspirational, stress relieving Music
This is a CD you could listen to every single day. It is accidentally a really inspirational listen.......I'm guessing it was intentional however I found it accidental. I listen to it often and like it more and more each time. It puts you in a good place. I recently had the pleasure of seeing these guys live on their tour and they are even better in person !

[+] 10.0 Even better than I imagined.
I heard one song by this group on the radio & purchased the CD. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the variety of music played by this group. It's like they are a mix of urban, rock, R&B, soul, etc. I really enjoyed the whole CD...nearly every song was my favorite, if that's possible. I'm glad to have stumbled onto this group.

[+] 10.0 Uplifting. Breath of fresh air.
I first saw NeedToBreathe in concert with Jars of Clay last year. I had no idea who they were until I hard Shine On ("oh, I've heard that before!"). I got their first CD and LOVED it! It's smooth, clean and uplifting (even the slow songs).

I was excited to see they came out with a second CD and ordered it right away. Again, the music is clean and refreshing and highly recommend it for anyone trying to brighten their day with a little soul-rock.

[+] 10.0 pure talent
The album is incredible. There's a song to fit every mood, emotion, situation. It's stayed in my cd player for far longer than most. The heart and soul put into each song is apparent...these guys have talent and drive. Can't wait for the next album. In the meantime, I'll see them live whenever possible!

[+] 8.0 EXCELLENT piece of work
One of those albums that finally makes you want to listen to some more "Christian" music...although I know this album was not produced, mixed, nor distributed by a Christian label (and maybe that's the saving grace). In any event, a FINE production with songwriting that gets deeper as you pay attention to each song....3/4 of the way through the songs get quite monotonous, and that's why I withheld a 5th star. Sorry, but for a band dominated by such distinctive and strong vocals, they really need to mix things up or cut similar-sounding songs...tracks 3-8 are VERY similar in structure, speed, etc. But, those happen to be some of my favorite tracks, too. Many albums end weak, but this one ends with two distinctive tracks that mix things up and will have you humming for a few hours afterwards.

[+] 10.0 Top 10 of 2007, Great 2nd Album!
WOW!! "Signature of Divine (Yahweh)" is my favorite song of the year hands down and "The Heat" is top 10 of 2007 in my opinion as well. What I really like is that while I was still savoring the awesome southern rock sound of NEEDTOBREATHE from "Daylight" they knocked my socks off with "The Heat". I also love "Washed By The Water", "Restless" and "Streets of Gold".

[+] 10.0 HOOKED! AWESOME CD, A MUST HAVE FORE EVERYONE!
I don't know where to start, except I listen to a lot of AIR1.com it also comes in via satellite to my area, I heard the song "Signature Of Divine (Yahweh)" and went WOW!!!!! I went to the nearest Christian book store and told them to go to AIR1.com and it would tell them the song they just played.. sure enough... the lady came back to me and told me who sang it and like I said WOW it was bought!

I heard of NTB before and liked their music but this CD is a MUST HAVE!
If you haven't gotten it or checked it out, take a minute and do so, you will be so glad you did!

[+] 10.0 Shine On Streets of Gold
I'm a huge NTB fan and was prepared to be disappointed with "The Heat"- I didn't think they (Bo, Bear, Joe, Seth) could create another song that would resonate with me the way "Shine On" did/does, but they succeeded with "Streets of Gold".

I was also impressed with NTB's versatility (e.g. bluegrassy portion of "More Time", jazzy parts of "The Heat", riff and chorus in Signature of Divine, just to name a few).

I recommend buying The Heat, listening to it, then heading out to a NTB show or two.

[+] 6.0 Good, but not as Good as Daylight.
I loved Needtobreathe's first cd "Daylight". So I was very happy when I heard about the new release "The Heat", but after buying it and hearing it, I thought it wasn't as good as the first release. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it is bad, because I actually really like about 4 or 5 tracks on it. But, they have about 3 or 4 songs on it that aren't good at all, I think. They have some songs that sound a little to gospel for my taste. I like the Christian alt/pop/rock sound. I will say though if you liked the first album, then I would still suggest maybe buying this one too. Because there are 4 or 5 really good tracks, one of them being "Streets of Gold". But, like I said it just isn't as good as the first album they had.

[+] 10.0 A must buy
I haven't purchased an entire album from ANY artist in over 3 years (why buy an enitre album when you can just buy the mp3s of the few songs you like?)....The comes the group NeedtoBreathe, hibernation over :) That's right, it's that good, every single song. Like a previous reviewer said, they did branch out on a few songs, as far as styles go, but it's like having the best of that style. the songwriting, production, message (lyrically), all top notch. Highly recommend!!

[+] 10.0 Needtobreathe's CD The Heat
this second album is going to be like Needtobreathe's first album, that is, it is goingto be one of those rare albums on which every song is good. You can play it from start to finish, and you never have to skip a song. These songs are products of a master songwriter who knows his craft. The first album had a more coherent sound, which caused some people to say that all their songs sounded kind of the same (I didn't think that, but others did). But on this album, they have really branched out, and tried some different styles, and taken some risks. But every one of them was well worth it, because every style they do, they do it so well. It's just great music!
