[+] 8.0 Great affordable GPS
Easy to use, quick to catch the GPS signals when turned on. I drive all over upstate NY (lots of country backroads as well as city streets) and I can't suggest this enough. I have tried several other brands and I like this one head and shoulders above the rest. Worth a try for anyone new to GPS.

How could I have survived without it? It shows me routes that I never knew existed, establishes routes very quickly, and is very easy to use. The screen is nice and big, touch screen is responsive, POI are numerous and helpful. Would recommend anyone this product.

[+] 10.0 TomTom ONE XL
Great product used it right out of the box, to make a trip to Mississippi. It worked alittle slow at times but over all its great for the money. There are more expensive ones that would be faster but for me this one does the job. I really like the wide screen.

[+] 10.0 Great performance for the money
This is the first GPS device that I've owned, so my basis for comparison is limited to ones in my friend's cars. That said, this device is a gem. You get all the functions, features, design, and easy of use as in models costing $100 more. They even throw in a free windshield mount. How cool is that? I would definately recommend getting a carrying case though, since you'll be taking it off the windshield and throwing it in the glove box every time you stop in order to keep it hidden from theives. Buy this and you'll never have to hear "honey I think we're lost," or "nice 'short cut,' honey," or "can't we just stop and ask for directions"? That, my friends, is worth its weight in gold.

This arrived in a timely manner and in the condition promised. It was a gift for my wife, and she enjoys using it. Very easy to understand and navigate. My only wish is that I had paid attention to the fact it has no internal battery. Other than that, it is excellent.

[+] 2.0 Lemon
This product is a lemon. The map couldn't find my place, which is located in the heart of Buckhead, Atlanta, the most central place in the city, cross of two major roads. Customer support recommended me upgrading the map, which I did, and it still did not find my place. I returned it and replaced with a $6 old-fashioned map.

[+] 10.0 This is the best GPS on the market.

This is a very accurate and easy to use GPS. The price was very reasonable for anyone who doesn't like to spend a whole lot.
The wide screen is also a big plus because you can see it better.
We have checked prices elsewhere and this was the most reasonable from Amazon.

[+] 10.0 This GPS is better than a bag of diamonds
Fantastic! Customizable! Never get lost again! What are you waiting for???

I have tried both the 4.3 inch and a 3.5 inch TomTom (called XL and version 3 respectively)

I paid $150 for the small TomTom and am ecstatic with it.

You can download software off the TomTom website to update your maps and add POI (points of interest) - I downloaded all the lighthouses as I am on the East coast and like to photograph them, but you can add whatever you like, stores, strip clubs, churches, state and national parks, whatever you are into they have the locations all to download on their website.

Fantastic!

I give the TomTom an A+

[+] 8.0 Good Unit for the price
This is my 2nd Tom Tom and I love the bigger screen. The larger screen allows the icons to be seen at a greater distance and allows for easy navigation between screens. Tom Tom added a SD Slot with this unit but only allows you to use either the SD card or the main unit memory when attached to the computer for file transfers. This unit should also have MP3 capabilities built in and lacks that function. Tom Tom web site does have Free voices and sounds but Tom Tom also charges for every little extra features such as red light info, traffic updates, etc.

[+] 4.0 Battery life is a problem
I purchased a One XL not quite a year ago. With the exception of the battery, it's great!
I use it several times a week and for the last couple of months, it's been hard to maintain a charge. It's at the point now where it won't power up at all and from what I've read, this unit has battery issues.

I have no idea how pervasive battery issues are with this particular unit or TomTom in general but it seems to me that I've not used it more than average and for the battery to die after 9 months, is a problem. I am planning on purchasing a replacement battery but based on this expereince, I would hesitate to purcahse another TomTom unit.

[+] 10.0 Even the GPS challenged should get one...
Tired of discovering I had either an out-of-date map or not having the map I need, I looked into Magellan, Garmin, and TomTom. After using each, the TomTom seemed the easiest to use (a big plus since the rest of my family is tech-challenged...). The wide screen is really nice, and it finds everything I can throw at it.

Two observations:
1. My street runs N/S. Most of where I go is S, but the unit seems to always want me to go N and loop around the block. I 'fixed' it by creating a 'avoid this', but still...and this was not unique to TomTom.
2. There needs to be a way to tell the unit 'I'm taking a break'--if you pull off to get gas, hit the bathroom or mini-mart, it starts 'correcting' you....need a 'pause/resume trip' option.

My wife has taken it to TN with her, and has commented that it's been nice to have as she is off on side roads, etc. Her only complaint (other than #2 above) is that the 'remaining distance/time' doesn't update very often....

Be aware that GPS takes a lot of power--the 2hr battery life has been a bit over 3h for me, but I do use the power saving features...so don't forget your charger/adapter.

I haven't used the TomTom Home application yet...so I can't comment on it.

[+] 10.0 Perfect for all your Nav needs...
This is a great unit. It does all it needs to do with out being cumbersome. It may not say street names, but it does have vocal navigation guides that are very easy to understand. The screen is also very responsive to touch and it is crystal clear. Plus the TomTom Home software that accompanies the unit is priceless. It makes your ONE XL that much easier to use and get updates from TomTom.

[+] 10.0 Good bang for the buck!
Bought new for $139.00 from Amazon with free shipping. It arrived in my mailbox in 4 days. Works right out of the box with no complicated instructions. Starts up fast and acquires satellite signals quickly, even inside my house. Took it for a test drive with the phone book for addresses and it works perfectly every time. I guess you can spend more money for more bells and whistles but I can't imagine those units getting you where you want to go any better or faster. My first car GPS system and it is all I will ever need. Thank you TomTom.

[+] 10.0 Great for the price...very handy!!
Got a $25 coupon for Amazon.com and had been looking around for one. This model was on sale, offered nice features and had everything I thought I wanted. Functions well, lots of features, good download options from the web. Only wish the battery lasted a little longer and wish it came with a cover or carrying case. But well worth the money and great to have a portable device to switch to different vehicles!

This is the second TomTom I have purchased, first one being TomTom One. TomTom is really easy to operate and is quick in finding routes. With thousands of pre-loaded attractions, hotels, restaurants, and many other places, you can be assured that you will never have a difficult time looking for a place. I recommend TomTom to everyone.

[+] 4.0 Beware - broke after a year
After a little over a year the unit broke. It reboots every time I turn off the engine. After rebooting it cannot find GPS signal. Sometimes instead of rebooting it just hangs on the white and black screen, and I'm not able to turn it off at all. I suspect the problem is with the battery.

A few months earlier, it started giving me signs of warning by not finding GPS for a long time after being turned on.

I paid about $250 for it a year ago, it is a high price tag for a year of usage! This time I'm going with Garmin which has a better reputation for reliablity.

[+] 10.0 My new best friend!
After reading all of the other reviews, some being negative, I decided to try the Tom Tom anyway. I cannot say how happy I am with this unit. I bought this to take a trip from Nebraska to Phoenix. I printed paper maps just in case. I NEVER used the paper maps. Tom Tom took me from my home to Phoenix perfectly. I never had any issues with locking up like some people claim. I never had any issues with Tom Tom taking me to the wrong place. My guess is that problems are with the operator. I literally left my front door and arrived at the exact address I specified. Even when I stopped off for food and gas, Tom Tom re-calculated my map and told me where to go. I never got lost. I updated the maps before I left and it worked great. This was the best $159 I spent. I am still not sure how I traveled without this the last several years. I hear other people complaining that they can't find the address, and taking them to the wrong place. I had no trouble with this device, but even if I did, you can't blame the device. It took me 1300 miles flawlessly. I am extremely happy. There are other models with more features, but I didn't find a feature that I needed that this unit did not already have. Extremely happy with my Tom Tom!

[+] 10.0 Excellent, Affordable GPS!
The TomTom One XL is a great GPS. The maps are easy to follow, and the spoken directions are a big help while driving. I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend, who has a traveling sales job. This has been one of the biggest time-savers! If there is traffic, you can get rerouted easily to avoid jammed highways. You can download several voices from the TomTom website, including Yoda and Mr. T. Overall, it's a fun, basic, affordable GPS with a wide screen that you can easily see while driving. It is really easy to use out of the box, even technophobes will be able to figure it out. I would recommend this system to anyone looking for an inexpensive GPS.

[+] 10.0 Great so far
I have only had the prouct a couple of weeks but so far it is great. Large clear screen, loud clear audio. I have entered a few points of interest and they were there. Still need to investigate some of the features.Specifically alternate routes. It takes a while for the GPS to figure out when I have taken an alternate and redfine the instructions. But all in all I would recommend this product.

[+] 8.0 Works right out of the box
Got home from work to find box on the back step. I opened it, found the TomTom, browsed the first page of the instructions (I'm a guy), went out to my car and turned the TomTom on. It took me 3 minutes to enter some preference information and my home address and I was done, ready to try and get lost.

I love it, but I feel like I'm starting to lose my sense of direction. It's like having to add numbers by hand, like when I deposit my wife's Tastefully Simple checks at the bank. I feel like I'm in 3rd grade math class again - "9 plus 8, carry the 1..."

[+] 4.0 TomTom 3rd Edition is better
I have been using the TomTom 3rd edition for more than a year so I decided to buy another TomTom for a second vehicle. I got the XL just for the extra size. As experienced TomTom used noticing the differences is a very simple fact, here my experience.

Positives:
- The widescreen is nice; you can see a bit more on the sides while driving.

Negatives:
- It is very heavy, if you mostly drive pavement then you should be fine but some bumps will get the GPS right on the floor.
- The design is not optimum, is you closely see the picture, you will see that the actual screen is significantly smaller than the unit itself. There is a gray frame around the screen which is wasting precious space unnecessarily.
- The volume changes up spontaneously. This may be a problem to this unit perhaps? I have read some other reviews about volume problems but my unit is unable to keep the volume stable (in fact I returned this unit because of this reason). The volume will go up or down when you are not expecting it.
- The voices are not clear; my 3rd edition is significantly louder and clearer.
- The brightness of the unit is miserable; the 3rd edition is also significantly brighter, comparing both units side-by-side, the 3rd edition offers an image that is brighter, sharper and very clear. The XL looks like an old worn out LCD monitor. Driving during daylight and wearing sun glasses you will have significant problems to visually identify details on the XL. That is not a problem I ever had with the 3rd edition (read my TomTom 3rd edition review if you want additional details).

So as you can see, my XL was going back in no time. I'm willing to try the TomTom XL 330S for $100 bucks more but if I don't get convinced, I'll buy another 3rd edition, this last unit has a cost/performance that exceeds my expectations.

Finally and besides the screen size, both units are identical. They catch signal quickly, the menus are almost the same with little differences but still all the options are basically the same. I have to rate it low because of all the problems I have found on it, I don't consider it a good purchase.

[+] 4.0 Stop Me Before I Throw It Through The Window
Very frustrating to use. Doesn't like to connect to the computer on the first try. The software that allows you to operate it via the computer won't always launch. The unit sometimes has a hiccup and won't respond to a touch command, so when it wakes up after the second or third try, it does the command...you got it, three times. I bought it for the larger screen. But overall, it has not been an enjoyable thing to use. UPDATE: I gave up and threw it out. By this time, I didn't want to exchange it for the second time. I'm washing my hands of TomTom.

[+] 2.0 Unit did not work
I purchased this unit to use on the road. I have been using a GPS system for about 4 years. I have one built in to my Jeep, have been renting from Hertz when traveling. While I do not consider myself a GPS expert, I have enough experience in using one to understand the operation. Due to the expense of renting when traveling, I decided I would purchase a unit to save the rental fee everytime.

I hope that the unit I purchased, new in the box, was defective and not the norm for TomTom. I took it on the road. I tried to route 7 different locations over a period of several days. It failed miserably.
- I got off the plane and turned it on. It never found my location, despite laying on the dashboard for over an hour.
- I went online for tech support, found suggestion to reset.
- I reset it, did not make a difference, still took a long time to find location (20 - 30 mins) if it did find it. I was with someone walking around down who had a Garmin Nuvi, it always knew were we located, the TomTom never found the location, even when searching for over 2 hours.
- Over the 7 attempts I tried, it worked one time.

When working, it does a good job of recalulating route, announcing turns. When I returned it, the sales person asked me if I want to exchange it, I chose not to. Did not want that frustration again. So as I said, I hope it was only defective, because if it is normal, it is terrible.

Last but not least, their website is less then user friendly. I was told by tech support to just look on the web. Links given were non-working.
I returned the unit after and purchased a Garmin Nuvi 360.

Hope this helps.

[+] 6.0 Love TomTom, Despite Flaws
Although I only give TomTom 3 stars for this device, I really like it and I would purchase ONE XL again.

For city driving, there is little to fault. This is my 3rd GPS, and compared to my archaic Garmin III+ and previous TomTom for Palm Treo, this is a beautiful unit. It is also one of the first electronic gadgets that my wife likes as much as I do. On a trip to San Francisco, it enabled her to leave me in meetings and set off alone across the Bay Area to visit her 90 year old aunt. The TomTom was wonderful, guiding her through freeway lane changes and complicated interchanges. Then it brought her safely back to the hotel -- all in an area so foreign to her, she did not know north from south, east from west.

My problem with the TomTom surfaced on a recent road trip from Texas to Utah and Idaho. First, I noticed problems with the map around a couple of Texas State Parks in the Panhandle, Palo Duro Canyon and worse in Caprocks. The TomTom was insisting I route down roads clearly marked 4 wheel drive only, and when I went around Caprocks to the main entrance side, the TomTom indicated roads that were not there, and took me down a labyrinth of dirt roads through agriculture fields. I reached the destination, only to realize there is a nice paved road into the park that TomTom didn't route.

An even worse problem surfaced in Northern Idaho. I lit out from Idaho Falls, assuming Yellowstone was further north on I-15. Wrong. I turn on the TomTom after driving half an hour, not figuring I needed it, but wanting to determine an arrival time. The TomTom quickly revealed I was on the wrong highway, so I routed East towards a little dot on the map - Kilgore, Idaho. That's then the trouble started. Once you get out on dirt roads, even those carrying state highway designations, the TomTom fell apart. Between Kilgore and Winter Park Idaho, the TomTom would have killed me if I paid any attention to it. Non-existent roads were prolific, and the voice prompts to turn become nagging. At times, when a road was present, it looked like something heading off into a cow pasture. Luckily, Idaho keeps the main road well graded and maintained, so it was obvious where to go. In fact, there are a lot of nice vacation homes in the area, so no real concern. But the TomTom database was a mess, so bad the features to allow users to give feedback on non-existent roads were utterly useless because errors were simply overwhelming.

In balance, I highly recommend the TomTom if your travel plans don't include dirt roads.

Also, I'll note that TomTom provisions to download map updates and application upgrades has dramatically improved over my previous GPS units.

Major point for me: Macintosh support is excellent, totally first class. The Mac software is polished and easy to use.

Other than outback map problems, I'd give the TomTom 5 stars!

For a Brazilian, a GPS like this is a must, driving in the USA. Except for an afternoon in Atlanta, where it put me in a loop, making turns between I-75 and I-85, it guided me safely during four weeks. It is really a big help.

[+] 10.0 Turn right in 200 feet
While this is not the best GPS navigational system out there with tons of bells and whistles, it gets the job done. Newer and more expensive models include voice recognition and text to speech features. I feel that these are overkill and not really needed, especially text to speech. How often are you able to actually read street signs before the intersection anyway? It is much easier to just be told right or left. A quick glance at the screen also shows the street name and your exit is overlayed in red. This is great for confusing highways with multiple ramps in one place.

I do have two issues I do have with this device. First, it would be nice if it told you which lane you need to be in. There were several times where I did not realize the lane I was in suddenly became an exit or split into another highway. The device does try to help by instructing to exit left or right far enough in advance to get you to move in that direction. One nice feature that I really never thought about before is that depending on your speed, the device gives you more or less warning on turns. At highway speeds it gives at least 2 miles warning. But at city speeds it gives yards or feet.

The second complaint is that the device saves your personal information on volatile memory and sips on the battery to keep it stored. If you do not charge the device regularly, the battery will eventual run out and your home information and preferences will be lost. I have no idea why this can't be stored on flash memory with the maps.
