[+] 2.0 Unreliable - it should JUST WORK!
purchased this card to save a few $$$ over the Netgear/Belkin/DLink card. the card itself installed easily, but it just didn't work. on fresh startups/reboots the card would find the network and connect somewhat sluggishly. if the computer sat idle long enough to get to the screen saver (15 min) the card would just stop working. it would say that it was connected to the internet, but nothing would come through. also had this problem when bringing the computer back from sleep/hibernation modes. did the routine trouble shooting of the router, the firewall, the antivirus, the system settings, etc etc...it had to be the card. took it back, and paid the $10 more for the NETGEAR WG311 54Mbps Wireless-G PCI Adapter. the NETGEAR adapter !*WORKS FLAWLESSLY*! (although i don't particularly care for their connection management software). i also read online about firmware issues with this particular TRENDNET model.

buyer beware.

card was installed on a system w/ a fresh WINXP SP2 install

[+] 10.0 Works out of the box in Linux!
I was very pleased that this card worked out of the box for Linux. Installation was as simple as unpackaging it and plugging it into my system. As an added bonus the card supports monitor mode allowing you to use programs like Kismet to their fullest abilities.

[+] 2.0 Wow, really? Why did I ignore the 1 star reviews...
This is a lousy wifi adapter. I barely got to this page on it. Terrible range; my laptop does fine and my router is at the other end of my whole-floor brownstone apartment, that's probably over 70 ft away with 2 plaster walls in between. 4 bars consistently. This can rarely get above 2 bars. Constantly loses connection - cancelled downloads ahoy! Vague, confusion instructions. Nothing but a waste of time. Do not buy. Especially if you were trying to use it on Windows 7 like me. There are 64-bit adapters available. I am returning this as it is effectively broken, and trying one of those.

What was nice about this besides getting it in only 2 days, is that there is support in linux for the adapter and it worked right out of the box.

[+] 2.0 Craptastic card
Used this with an Abit KG7 mobo.
Card locks up the computer at completely random intervals. I've gone to the vendor's website and grabbed the latest updates & drivers. No help.
The install instructions mention not using Windows zero wireless configuration but the included programs make no provision for connecting to secure networks.
You may be able to use it with an unsecured network if you're sure all of your neighbors like you well enough that they won't poach your connection to send death threats to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

[+] 2.0 BSOD condition
I don't have objective evidence, but I suspect this hardware driver has compatibility problems with some systems, i.e., HP dc5700 minitower running Windows XP. My system has a bluetooth adapter enabled. I devoted 3-4 hours to trying to get it to work, thought I had it, then I got the dreaded blue screen of death(again) for the last time. The mfgr support would only tell me to reinstall, which is par, but which did not provide a solution. I'm sending it back.

[+] 2.0 Terrible Software
The software application that comes with this adapter is very flaky. After I installed it, I started getting a login prompt after boot-up. And upon login, I always got 2 error pop-ups. After installing, the application always allowed me to configure the adapter, but after rebooting, the application no longer even functioned. I tried installing/uninstalling a few times to try different scenarios. One time I got a blue screen during uninstall.

I guess I should not have ignored the Windows warning that this software did not pass the Windows logo test. I'm returning this product.

[+] 2.0 Locks up my computer
It took me a while to understand this card was the source of my computer freezing every few seconds, but noticing that Metatrader 4 sounded a disconnect alarm during the freeze-up made it obvious. Repairing my wireless connection would get rid of it for a variable amount of time, but it always returned. I tried everything Trendnet suggested, I even reinstalled Windows XP, (which gave me a nice clean fast new installation free of all the junk I had accumulated!) but nothing helped. I'm buying a new card, probably the Super G 802.11BG Wireless Pci 64 Bit Xp Compliant Turbo Mode by MSI, since it has the best reviews.

[+] 4.0 Good budget choice but unreliable
As many reviewers have noted this adapter works but not optimally. I've never gotten it to connect at better than 11 mbps and the connection frequently drops to 1 mbps. It works for basic web surfing (provided the users have administrative permissions to frequently repair the connection), but you won't be able to use it for many administrative LAN tasks (such as copying large files) because the connection drops so frequently.

[+] 4.0 abysmal performance for uploading!
This product works fine when surfing the web, or watching movies off the internet, eg, from abc, fox, etc.

However, when you try to upload to flickr/smugmug, the performance is so spotty, that you would rather strangle yourself than try to use this to upload! It is near to impossible to upload more than 10 photos consecutively.

I would stay far away from this poor excuse of engineering. More information on my usage, I'm using this with vista.

BEWARE!

[+] 2.0 Piece of junk
First, I am an experienced engineer in both software and hardware. I have no idea if the hardware will work or not as the device is not registered with microsoft. That is ordinarily no issue. In this case, I gave up using their instructions to install. I attempted to use vendor's uninstall and all it does is take desktop icons off, leaves all the software on pc. Windows XP attempts to uninstall but unsucessfully. Manually attempting to remove software also unsucessful. The support site www.trendnet.com on packaging is not there if it ever was.

As you can gather I believe the vendor may have loaded the reviews. I am certainly not happy with it. Back it goes to Amazon.

[+] 2.0 Trendset 54Mbps Wireless G PCI Adapter TEW-423PI
This card has been a huge disappointment. It would drop my Internet connection at intervals from a few seconds to a few minutes. I replaced it with the Linksys WMP54G, and all problems have been solved.
Maybe I had a defective card, but the sales person where I bought it did say this card was prone to drop-offs. Stupidly, I didn't believe him, because the price was lower than the Linksys.

Bought TRENDnet TEW-423PI 54Mbps Wireless G PCI adapter Bought this item in January of 2009. Pretty simple to use and easy to read directions. I am not the best in computers, nor know much about them, just the average computer user. It works great. It is now the Month of March. Hasnt had any problems, usually wont have any problems with a wireless g adapater. Shipping was how they said it was and alerting me when it had been shipped and estimate arrival time. GREAT JOB!!!

[+] 4.0 piece of crap!
I was looking for an inexpensive card for my desktop to avoid running network cable to my router. Installation was smooth and easy. Problems had started when I tried to connect to wireless router. It is only 10 feet away from the card's antenna in straight line and the signal has only 2 bars! Then I moved my desktop to the other side of my desk and the router as close as I could. Now I have 3, sometimes 4 bars.
I decided to buy a traditional cable.
I'm giving 2 stars only because it works and installs with any problems. Definitely not worth a penny. Stay away and spend your money for a better card.

[+] 10.0 Network Card
Product was provided on time and was works like advertised. The only minor glitch is that it appears to be a network card for the new Vista operating system and I have XP so the software does not work correctly for the network status. Instead of coming up with just a pop up window it takes up the whole screen, but other than that the card works fine.
The price was right.

[+] 10.0 IF you know what you're doing
When it comes to wireless network interface cards you can't always expect success right out of the box. No manufacturer can control your pre-existing network configurations, firewall policies, etc., so wireless connections can be a bit tricky.

IF you know how to troubleshoot these problems (which may be necessary with ANY wireless nic) then this product is smooth sailing. I have installed two--one worked immediately (just needed some channel tweaking) and the other required some tcp and firewall troubleshooting. Fifteen minutes later it worked great.

Be sure you use the configuration utility included with the driver, especially on XP. It is far more stable, less likely to drop the signal, and supports far more secure encryption protocols than the XP configuration tool.

[+] 2.0 Not the choice for me
I'll happily admit I bought on price. Wireless-G cards should be a commodity product by now. This card will not work with the XP wireless utility and requires its own driver utility to be installed. That would be OK, but when you do that on an XP machine, it kills your multiple user welcome screen and fast user switching.

I did get it up and running, but the driver application seemed to crash frequently and hence the connection was lost, with no guarantee it would return without a reboot. This frustrated my wife and family a lot so the card has to go.

Until Trend fix the software, I could not recommend this product.

[+] 8.0 Generally works with occasional hiccups
For the price, this card works for what it is needed for, connecting a desktop from one room to a another room where my cable modem is. They are separated by one floor vertically and about 15ft horizontally. It consistently connects at 54.0Mbps, though it takes a moment to search and connect when resuming the computer from hibernation. Occasionally, it will not turn on and connect in this situation, requiring a reboot.

[+] 2.0 Not worth the money
I bought this card for a Dell desktop when i setting up a wireless network in my house. Installing the wireless card into the computer wasn't that difficult and installing the drivers/software was a fairly painless process. However, the card had very poor reception and only detected a very weak signal and would continually lose the signal all together. Moving the antenna around did not increase the signal strength appreciably. Even when the wireless router was placed about 10 feet from the computer (with no obstructions between the card and the router), it still did not show the strongest signal possible. Thus, I would so don't buy this card as it is a waste of money.

[+] 6.0 Cheap. Pain to install. Use the Realtek Driver
It created a software error when I installed it - "Microsoft Kill Process Utility" created a fault. I uninstalled the supplied software and downloaded the software from the chip manufacturer - Realtek RTL8185L. Unzip the file to a temporary folder, install the card. Tell windows that you want to install from a specific location and browse to the folder. It will install the drivers, and then you can use the standard windows wireless manager to take care of connecting to your network. Driver can be found at Realtek's site. I also went into device manager and turned off the Let Windows Turn Off this Device to Save Power function.

Seems to work better now, but still drops off unexpectedly...

[+] 10.0 Excellent Signal
My troubles began after the team changed from Comcast to Verizon. My laptop went online immediately, but the work horse, my desk top, kept loosing the signal (both OS is Vista). The Verizon tech finally said that he couldn't determine why the weak signal. My wifi card was a Belkin (good products), but for some reason it couldn't hold the signal. I was dropping off line constantly. For three frustrating weeks I tried everything. I switched to other cards that were loaned to me, setup and re-setup, but nothing seemed to work.

In my searches for another card, I kept passing up this TrendNet because I wasn't familiar with the name - I didn't want more problems. Finally, I returned to this product on Amazon and glanced over the comments. The one from M.S. Broadbent caught my eye. I'm in a similar surrounding - finished basement office with the router upstairs and many feet away. So I ordered the card from Amazon.

I received it a few days ago, installed it, and immediately saw four green signal bars suddenly appear (four out of four!). It hasn't faltered once. Pleased? What do you think? Five stars? About ten.

I needed a wireless adapter fairly fast and wanted to keep the price low - so I turned to Amazon and went with this model. What a dissapointment!

Now I know computers - I have a degree in this field for pity sakes, so I know what I am doing when installing an item like this. Regardless, it never worked. Troubleshooting was useless.

Thankfully Amazon handled the return quickly. Thumbs up for Amazon - thumbs down for Trendnet.

[+] 2.0 Poor card, poor tech support
I can't seem to get this thing to work well over 30 feet (to a WRT54Gv3 or WRT54GSv5). I asked for new drivers and they sent me drivers for a "Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88w8335 Libertas 802.11b/g Wireless" chip, when the board has (and the original drivers were for) a Realtek 8185L.

I've finally gotten it connected and the performance is poor.

But it was cheap. Penny wise, pound foolish.

[+] 8.0 Easy to install. No problems...yet...
I was suspect about going with such a cheap product, but did so after reading the reviews. I found the product very easy to install and working just fine. I did have some problem between the driver with Microsoft XP. The driver is not "approved" by Microsoft and introduces a minor problem. It seems that I cannot use XP's personal profiles because of this. A bit of an irritant, but not a show stopper.

[+] 2.0 Locked up my Windows XP mouse, disabled fast user switching
Do not buy this if you have Windows XP home. I don't know what OS other people were using. When I installed the drivers, it disabled fast user switching (and took away the icon screen that people use to log in). After logging in with a dialog, there were two messages about programs crashing and wanting to send info to microsoft. Then, the mouse would lock up for 30 seconds every few minutes. All of these problems were new, and they stayed over multiple reboots until I used system restore to uninstall the drivers. Then they went away. Finally, it could not connect to my network even though it showed over 70% strength. I would avoid this product.

[+] 2.0 SW install unsuccessful, now cannot delete files
I followed the instructions to install the software first. It caused a complaint about not passing Windows Logo testing, and a warning about making the system unstable. I chose to continue anyway. It appeared to finish, but I didn't get the windows printed in the manual. I shutdown, installed the card, and started up. I got an error that Microsoft Process Kill Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. I sent the error report to Microsoft. I shutdown, removed the card, and started up. No errors. I removed the software with Add/Remove Programs, but it did not delete the Program Files\TRENDnet directory. I could not delete it manually because I didn't have access to the DLLs there. I don't know why, because nothing was running that used them. I restarted in safe mode and deleted the directory. I restarted, and got complaints about not being able to open certain kernel files. Great, it had burrowed in and left tentacles in my system. So I called technical support. A, I couldn't understand her. B, after consulting with a senior technician, she said I can't delete the directory because the system needs it there, but it was harmless to leave it there. C, she said to talk to my system administrator, even after I said it was my home computer and I'm the only one using it. This doesn't seem harmless to me. It seems like a virus. Time to wipe the disk.

[+] 6.0 Good Card, Software Needs Work
Pros: The card works great - strong reception and doesn't drop the connection. Good price.

Cons: The driver/utility software messes with Windows XP. Customer support is useless.

I installed this card following the provided directions, and chose to ignore the warning about the software not passing Windows logo testing. I soon noticed that my XP logon and logoff screens were different than usual. After a little bit of looking around, I discovered that fast user switching had been disabled by the software, and re-enabling it wasn't an option. Now, I never have good luck with tech support with these companies and usually do better figuring out the problem myself, but I decided to give them a chance. Total waste of time. After getting disconnected twice, I was finally talking to one of their support agents... kind of. I could barely communicate with her, and after telling me several times that there was no problem, she gave me a solution that was no where near correct. So I went back to troubleshooting on my own, and eventually came across the solution, which is to delete a particular registry value. If anyone else has this problem, you can refer to Microsoft KB article 302346 for the solution. I still don't know what the underlying cause is, but I suspect it's related to how the software tries to handle multiple user accounts.

Despite the above issue, the configuration utility interface itself is nice. It was very easy to find my router, enter the settings, and get connected. So overall, I have to say I'm happy with this product. It would just be nice if their software was tested a bit more thoroughly. A user really shouldn't have to get into deleting registry values to get back to normal after installing this product.

[+] 2.0 Absolute zero!!! This company should go out of business
This card is garbage. It works when it wants to. Sometimes it connects, other times it either won't connect under any circumstances short of pulling out the power of the router...then waiting until it is reinitialized. When that happens it connects at random speeds and continues to fall under total failure occurs. Not ever have I had such an annoying problem with a wireless card. I even went out of my way to spend a lil bit more for what I thought was a better quality card. I am extremely disappointed, really! I now have the cheapest wireless g-pci card I could find, and that one works flawlessly. Shame on TRENDnet for selling this rubbish!

[+] 2.0 Poor Quality
I sent this card back the day after I got it. First of all, the enclosed software would not install properly on my XP machine. Perhaps I got a bad copy of the CD. Seems unlikely. I ended-up running the card straight through windows but the speed fluctuated and was constantly slow. Calling customer service was a waste of time. No phone number is given in the manual so I had to go online using my laptop and get it. I waited on hold for more than half an hour and finally gave up. I was attracted to this product by the price and other users seem to have success with it. I did not. My advise, don't gamble on this one, spend a little more money, and get a quality product.
