[+] 10.0 Disoc is back in town
Pure Disco, Volume 2 is one hour, twelve minutes and twelve seconds and was released on November 11, 1997. The songs on this cassette were some of the most popular songs during the disco era. The only song that I have not heard in a long time is Love's Theme by Love Unlimited Orchestra. At the end of the cassette is a mixture of diva songs. This is a great cassette to listen to and Pure Disco, Volume 2 gets an A+ from me.

[+] 10.0 Actually, this one is better than the first installment!
Though the remix of Gaynor's "I Will Survive" featured on this compilation pales in comparison to the original, heard on the first in the series, the other songs contained within are true indicators of what a generation danced to during the late 70's and early 80's.

Classics like "Turn the Beat Around," the perennial favorite "We Are Family," "Can't Get Enough of Your Love," "Rock the Boat," Diana Ross's monster hit "Upside Down," "Play the Funky Music," the great "Ring My Bell," It's Raining Men," "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty," "The Hustle," "Love's Theme," and the Donna Summer Oscar-winning "Last Dance" will, most definitely, take a disco lover to musical heaven.

Of course, there's a little filler here. "Flashdance" seems a bit too 80's for this collection and Andy Gibb's "I Just Want to be Your Everything" just doesn't fit. However, one can overlook those errors in judgment and just enjoy the disc in its entirety.

[+] 10.0 now THIS is disco music !!!
Pure Disco, Vol. 2 has a lot of great disco tunes and major hits from the golden days of disco! Going to the discothèque meant you could dance your worries away and find glory on the dance floor even when you were down and out in real life. The quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is very nicely done.

The CD starts with "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. This sounds like a recording she made after she recorded this earlier; but it still sounds pretty good and it's still great music for dancing. KC & The Sunshine Band do their classic disco hit entitled "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty;" "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty" has one of the best disco beats I've ever heard and they sing and play this to perfection--I love it! I could never tire of hearing this song. Of course, Vicki Sue Robinson does her awesome "Turn The Beat Around;" this still gets them dancing on the dance floor and it has a wonderful beat that is irresistible! The Village People also do their campy, fun tune "Macho Man;" and listen for Sister Sledge doing an incredible hit, "We Are Family." "We Are Family" is another timeless disco tune that really makes me smile whenever I hear it.

"I Just Want to Be Your Everything" by Andy Gibb is a stunning number that showcases Andy's beautiful talents and it's another major highlight of this album. Andy sings this with lots of feeling and you can really feel that when you hear this song. The Hues Corporation also does their great "Rock The Boat;" this love song/disco tune always works great at parties and they sing this without a flaw! Van McCoy's "The Hustle" was also a tremendous hit back in the day; and whenever I hear this it always brings back fond memories for me of junior high school dances and dating.

Abba's "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" has a hauntingly beautiful melody that Abba aces so easily; they were a most talented group and their success on the charts proves it! They don't get the recognition they still so richly deserve today; but you never know--maybe that will change.

The Silver Connection does their "Fly, Robin, Fly" from 1975; we often listened to this on the school bus--it had a radio and we were allowed to listen as we made the trek to and from school every day! Boy, that was great. The Weather Girls do a fantastic job with their biggest hit--that remains a cult favorite--"It's Raining Men." "It's Raining Men" had them doing this act in pink dresses with lots of beefy male dancers on the stage behind them; although I've only seen a photo I'm sure that was quite an act!

Donna Summer sings "Last Dance" with positive energy and all her heart and soul; it's terrific! The CD also ends strong with a mix medley of several songs by Gloria Gaynor--great!

Pure Disco, Vol. 2 is an excellent CD for those of us who still love disco; and this album is sure to bring back good memories for so many of us. This is also a fine introductory CD for newcomers just discovering how wonderful disco really was.

Have a number of disco albums. I use them to walk and to work out, where I need music with a heavy beat, to keep me going. So far, this one is the best of the ones that I have. It has great songs, with a dynamite compilation at the end. Really gets the blood pumping!

[+] 10.0 I FINALLY,found"THAT(smoooooooth) song!!
I had been,wondering,for years'where,I could get,one of the mellowest,beats',that,I'd EVER,heard!! I'm talking about "Loves Theme". For YEARS(when,I was younger)I would hear it,every now and again,being played on the radio(not having a CLUE,as to what "it" was called,or, WHO,composed it)and,I would always' be TRANSFIXED,by the sheer BEAUTY,of this"mysterious"song...(that always,seemed to spark a bit of melancholy,in my heart)...One time,I thought,that I heard a D.J. mention something about"Loves' Themesong"(which,I thought was a PERFECT,name,for such a beautiful song!!!But,that,"incident" was so LONG,ago(over 15 years')I,was unsure,if(with my CHAOTIC,post-stroke memory)I,actually DID hear that,or,just IMAGINED,hearing that title for it!!But,I saw those,words,on,the tracklisting,for,this,album,and now,I,FINALLY,have this GREAT song!!Can you say:Early 2007 CHRISTMAS?!!?

[+] 10.0 The very best for your money
Do yourselves a favor and buy all 3 of these Disco CDs. volume 1, 2, and 3. They are a superb value for the money and represent the very best in Disco Music. Like I said in my review of Disc 1, I use these CDs to work out on the tread mill. They keep me energized and bring back the fondest memories of my younger days when I could really swing to this kind of music. Now I trot to this kind of music on the tread mill and it is still as much fun!!!

[+] 10.0 Groovy ;)
For some reason I was looking for some old music from the past and this one had just about all of the ones I was looking for (except for the raining men one :P ) My 2nd grade daughter even knew a few of them and it's alot of fun singing together and telling her of the past. Music that you could sing along to and hear the words.

[+] 8.0 Non-disco means it's not "pure" but still best of the series
Despite good song selections overall, I still can't give this a 5 star rating because they persist in slapping songs on there that aren't from the disco era, although in this case they keep it to just one: Irene Cara's "Flashdance (What a Feeling)". My only other quibbles are that the version of "I Will Survive" is a remix here...as is a megamix version of some other Gaynor hits tacked on as a bonus. Without these shenanigans, the series would truly nail down what kept the platform shoes shuffling in the 1970s.

The song selection here is stronger than on Disc One, making this the best choice if you're only buying one in the series. But if you really love this, you'll probably want both of them. Disc 3 is more hit and miss and probably only for diehards.

4 1/2 stars

[+] 10.0 The best of the Pure Disco series.
This is a great compilation album! It starts off with a remix of "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. I prefer the original, found on Pure Disco #1. The second track is the KC and the Sunshine Band Hit, "Shake Your Booty", which I doubt anyone doesn't know at least one line of. Then is one of my favorite disco songs, Vicki Sue Robinson's "Turn the Beat Around". It is a song with so much going on you almost get lost! After that is "Macho Man" by the Village People, which is definitely not one of my favorites, but some people like it. Next is Sister Sledge's "We Are Family", which is just a bit repetitious. After that is the famous "What a Feeling" by Irene Cara. It may not technically be disco, but it's a nice inclusion. Next is Andy Gibb's "I Just Want to Be Your Everything", which I like the beat and melody, but not Andy Gibb's vocals. After that is "Everlasting Love" by Carl Carlton, a quite unappreciated song. Then you'll hear "Can't Get Enough of Your Love", a Barry White song I'm not too fond of. After that is The Hues Corporation's "Rock the Boat", which annoys me for some crazy reason. Then you'll get "Love Rollercoaster" by the Ohio players, the most annoying disco song of all time. The only songs after that worth mentioning are "Upside Down", a fun song by the Motown/Disco legend Diana Ross. "Gimme Gimme Gimme", one of my favorite ABBA songs, "It's Raining Men", a song with about 3 other versions floating around, and "Last Dance", the most energetic disco song I've heard. The best songs on here are "Last Dance", "Turn the Beat Around", and "What a Feeling". I reccomend this to any disco fans.

[+] 10.0 Flash Back in Time
Great selection of favorite listening and dance hits from the 70's. Although some of the songs I really wouldn't classify as disco, every one on the cd brought back many memories.
Reviewer [AL06ZXTA7XQSV] | Date [February 6, 2003]
[+] 10.0 The Best of the Series
This is the best of the "Pure Disco" series. It contains all the best songs. It kicks off with a decent remix of Gloria Gaynor's disco standard "I Will Survive" and the album takes off after that. My favorite track would probably be "Turn the Beat Around," an explosive purscussion-based track. You also get "What A Feeling" from the movie Flashdance which was which hit long after disco's hey-day and "Rock the Boat" which was is considered by some the first disco song. Abba are included with "Gimme Gimme Gimme" which was not one of their bigger songs, but a great disco track anyways and the Weather Girls are a great addition with "It's Raining Men." This is an awesome CD for a party. It'll be sure to have everyone up and dancing to these great disco classics!
