[+] 4.0 20 plus 6 dollars shipping = I paid way too much
this isn't a BAD product, but it is still a rip-off There simply isn't enough materials/workmanship that went into this to justify the cost - it's a square of plastic with rubber pads on top - that's it, no more, no less. I trusted the scores of positive reviews here on Amazon, and I got burned. If it cost what it should, $12.99 all told, it'd be worth it.

[+] 2.0 I wanted to like it, but...
after reading so many positive reviews, against my own better judgment i decided to give Xpad a try. bottom line is it doesn't keep me cool nor does it keep my laptop cool. i recorded temps for my laptop without any cooling device, and with the Xpad and there is virtually no difference. as for keeping your lap cool, forget it. the Xpad itself simply absorbs the heat, right onto your lap. i've used Targus and Belkin USB fan units and they do work better, but are made very cheap and don't last. right now i'm using the Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler (which Amazon tries to sell with the Xpad...lol, tells you something about the Xpad doesn't it?). it is built much better than the Targus or Belkin units. works very well, keeping my laptop some 15 degrees cooler then the Xpad. hopefully it will last longer as well. has a 3 year warrenty...

not sure how this got so many positive reviews. my laptop is a 17" Gateway. with the Xpad the hole thing got hot. as i write, my laptop is cool...using the Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler. it does take a fan folks, and one that pulls heat away from the unit (Antec), not up into it (Targus/Belkin).

[+] 2.0 Don't Buy!!
I got an xpad for my macbook pro. As far as keeping heat from my lap it works, which is why it gets one star. The problem is that a blanket or book can also do this. I got this product because I thought it would help keep my laptop cooler. It doesn't. It works no better than a book. So save yourself the $25 and use a small empty binder instead, it works just as well, and is about the same size. And that reminds me, the xpad is almost thicker than my notebook so unless you are using a briefcase computer from the 1980's, it is absurd to use.

[+] 8.0 Does its job, but some things to consider first
This product does its job - keeping my laptop from A) overheating so easily and B) cooking my lap when it is hot. However, it's not quite large enough to be intended for use with 17" screen laptops like mine. I use it anyway, but my laptop hangs over the edges and needs readjusting sometimes. Also, the top and sides are made of plastic, while the bottom is dense foam-like material; the problem lies in the boundary between the materials. The foam compresses, leaving you with a thin plastic edge digging into your leg. This is only and issue when sitting certain ways - with it and my laptop squarely on my lap being supported by both of my legs, it's fine. Overall, I'm still happy with my purchase.

[+] 10.0 "Cooler than Cool"
Just got my Xpad today...love it! My legs are no longer "french fries". You save $$$ & time, no battery drain or use of electricity. It is very comfortable in my lap and laptop doesn't slide around as the alternative use of my pillow. During the summer heat it's a dream come true. Staying COOL in Bothell, WA!!

[+] 8.0 Cools well, USB is not straight
First of all, I'm very happy with how well this cools the notebook and how quiet it runs.

My only complaint is that the USB is not straight. I appreciate their intention to provide a USB hub to replace the one you're using, but I don't like that the USB now has a sideways pointing wire coming from it. On my Dell XPS, I can only use the USB port on the right side of my notebook, which means that I have to use this pad backwards. Instead of the air flowing out the back of the device, the warm air flows towards me. This may be nice in the winter, but it was 95 degrees here today.

I wish they would provide 2 cords with the device- the one currently provided and a straight one without a USB hub.

[+] 6.0 Still Running Hot
I have had this cooler for almost two years and all I can say is that it seems to work "ok". My lap still gets plenty hot even with the use of this product. To prevent slippage, I ended up using velcro squares and its now velcroed to the bottom of my laptop. That works great, but I had to buy those velcro squares. All in all, I'd not really recommend this product, nor have I in the past two years of owning it.

[+] 10.0 Finally a Laptop Cooler that doesnt destroy your laptop
When I first looked at this item on Amazon I must admit I was very skeptical. I have purchased many notebook coolers in my time, one of them actually costing me a notebook. It destroyed the fan inside the notebook, and then the notebook overheated and died, being I went to an outside electrical device that was not made by the company I somehow violated the not so affordable warranty I purchased which I must say caused me to be a bit angered. After I looked over multiple cooling systems I came across the Xpad. No fans? How does it cool your system down? Not wanting to take a chance on destroying another notebook with another p.o.s, I decided to get this Xpad, it was affordable, and best of all it doesn't violate any Warranty set by your notebook provider being it doesn't plug into it, or change its engineering in any shape or form. :) I received the Xpad later on that week, and decided to check it out, first and foremost, the reason my notebook runs at insane temperatures is because I am an Online Gamer. I play MMORPG's, to be specific World of Warcraft. My notebook would constantly over heat, resulting in what's known as the Blue Screen of Death. Since I have gotten the Xpad, I have not once seen this screen. However do not expect this Xpad to cool down your laptop 100%. It does however reduce the heat incredibly, and makes your notebook run allot smoother, and somehow faster! When placed on your lap, you don't even feel the heat. Or if I am wearing shorts, and parts of my leg is exposed, no heat! You will still feel a little heat from the laptop itself, so if you're looking for something that will 100% cool your notebook, this isn't for you. If you're looking for a product that will significantly reduce the heating to your laptop, and stop you from getting leg burn, than you have found your answer! I know I did!

[+] 4.0 Not really non-slip
Got it today. So far so good. Except for one thing: I'm on my recliner with legs elevated 10 to 20 degrees. I'm using an IBM T43 with the pad, and the laptop keeps slipping towards me.
The "feet" on the laptop are rubber, but the rubber on the "X" is slippery, and that's right out of the box. It's like someone put butter on the X-Pad. I'll try to wash it and see.

It's so NOT non-slip, that I can push the laptop back, and it just slides on top of the X-Pad. Normally you'd expect that rubbing one rubber against another will create friction.

[+] 10.0 Cool Running
Actually cooler running. Pad works perfectly as described. Non-slip corner pads, even when using at an angle. Computer is much cooler than when left on a flat surface. It is cooler, not cool, so it will still heat a bit, but not nearly as hot as without this pad. I often use my laptop while in bed watching tv, so even while lying, this pad is perfect.

[+] 10.0 Works exactly as stated
Got this because my computer fan was going all the time. Was afraid I was gonna fry the system.

This simple piece of hardware, no fans, no usb ports, did the trick. The fan on my laptop hasn't come on since. I was amazed.

[+] 10.0 Makes a laptop a laptop!
I've had one of these since Nov 06. I shopped around looking for just what I needed and this is it! "Bean bags" are bulky, fan-driven ones need power and may not be helpful, this Xpad is light, fits my case, keeps my machine cool and is useable in many positions. I've used it with 15" and 14" widescreens and it fit both well. I highly recommend it! It's not "just a board", it's ingenious!
